The North Chapel was built in 1942 as a place of worship for the United States Naval Training Center. On April 30, 1997, the Navy ceased all operations at the Naval Training Center and on May 30, 2000, transferred the property to the City of San Diego. In November 2006, the Chapel was reopened following an extensive renovation by C.W. Clark, Inc.

The North Chapel is a privately owned Chapel and is available on a rental basis to the general public. No services for worship are currently being offered at The North Chapel. Because the Chapel is privately owned, this affords flexibility to the public for many types of non-denominational services such as weddings and funerals. Because of the acoustical quality of the North Chapel and the sound system that is available, the venue can also be used for concerts The North Chapel provides seating for up to 300 guests and boasts a restored pipe organ, state-of-the-art sound system, and supporting equipment including mixing board, wireless hand-held microphones, lapel microphones, etc., and a digital carillon system, which produces the signature bell tones that you might find at a large cathedral.

Procedures for Booking Events

Wedding Ceremony

Tentative Booking: Chapel availability can be obtained by providing a written request via e-mail to events@ntcfoundation.org or by calling 619.573.9312. Please include your name, address, telephone number, the preferred date and time, the anticipated number of guests and the name and phone number of your wedding coordinator (if applicable). If the Chapel is available on the date requested, we will hold your “tentative booking” for a period of two (2) weeks. A TENTATIVE BOOKING DOES NOT RESERVE YOUR DATE. FULL PAYMENT AND A COMPLETED LICENSE AGREEMENT IS THE ONLY WAY TO SECURE YOUR DATE.

Final Booking: Once you have determined that you wish to book The North Chapel for your event, you will be required to execute a License Agreement provided by the North Chapel staff. You will submit the signed agreement, along with the Rental Fee, Security Deposit and Cleaning Fee to secure your reservation. Thirty (30) days prior to your event, a final guest count will be required.

Cancellation of Booking: Cancellation of your event after payment of the Rental Fee and the Security Deposit will result in the forfeiture of 50% of the Rental Fee; however if cancellation occurs within one hundred and twenty (120) days of the event, full forfeiture of the Rental Fee and Security Deposit will result.

Hours of Use: The Chapel will be made available for the rehearsal twenty four hours in advance of the ceremony for a period of one (1) hour. On the day of the event, the Chapel will be available for a maximum of three (3) hours to include the “pre-service” set-up, the ceremony and the “post-service” clean-up. Additionally, the Licensee shall be entitled to a one-hour meeting at the Chapel with their chosen consultants prior to their event date. The North Chapel may be available at other times, but will be subject to time periods established by Licensor.

Hourly Rate for Additional Time: The rental of The North Chapel does not entitle Licensee to use or enter The North Chapel at any time other than the specific hours for which the specific event is rented unless prior arrangement has been made with Licensor. Should your event extend beyond the Hours of Use, The North Chapel large sanctuary hourly rate is $150 per hour.

Rehearsal: Licensor will make every effort to accommodate a specific time for your Rehearsal, however, reserves the right to schedule any rehearsal at any time based upon event schedule.
